As the insulting video about the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) makes headlines, I have a few points to share.
As much as I am enraged and insulted by the actions of these imbecile individuals who published the offensive video, but what really pisses me off are the violent responses of the Muslims across the world. These so called Muslims, easily get triggered by these blasphemous actions and begin protesting in large mobs, chanting hateful slogans and burning flags and buildings, thinking they are doing JIHAD (striving in the way of GOD). Little do they know that these situations are strategically planned with the sole intention of provoking them in the first place. Instead of tackling the issue like a sensible, practising Muslim and following the teachings of the one they claim to love enormously, these barbaric people get in rage and do the most unislamic things possible.
My question to those individuals is: what really boils your blood to the extent that you feel like expressing your love for Islam by burning foreign embassies, flags, properties (quite often your neighbours) and creating havoc? Does the insult of the prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) and Islam hurt you to the extent that you are willing to even put your life at risk? Then why don’t we see the same anger when Muslims in Syria are being killed just because they believe in Islam and believe in Muhammad (p.b.u.h) as being the last and final messenger of GOD? Why didn’t we get to see the same anger when the people in Burma were being slaughtered because they believed in “La Ilaha Illallah Muhammad-ur-Rasool Allah” (the testimony of faith translated as “I testify that there is no GOD but one and Muhammad is his final messenger”). Why don’t we see the same anger and urge for justice around the world, by those individuals? Why are they almost non-existent for the people of Palestine, Kashmir, Syria or any other part of the world (Muslim or non-Muslim) craving freedom and justice? What makes those filthy rich extremists set bounties worth millions on the head of the guilty ones, thinking that they are serving the deen (religion) of ALLAH? If they want to show their love for Islam by spending millions from their earnings, then why do we see so much suffering due to poverty in the world? Why are there people dying out of hunger in countries like Congo, Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea etc. How many stomachs could be filled, how many peoples thirst could be quenched and how many lives could be saved by their wealth?
Moreover, why don’t we see the same reaction amongst them, when the prophet Adam and Eve (p.b.u.t) are repeatedly insulted in the media? Why don’t we see the same rage when Jesus (p.b.u.h) (who is also honoured as a mighty prophet in Islam) is shown dancing and singing around in town? Why do the same Muslims who go ballistic if the same disrespect is shown to the prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h), easily disregard blasphemous jokes and caricatures of Prophet Jesus, Moses, Noah (p.b.u.t) or any other prophet? Don’t all prophets deserve to be equally respected in Islam? A Muslim is suppose to feel as discontent and insulted by the insult of any other prophet as they feel by the insult of Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h). Then why do we see this partiality? The reason behind their bias is because all the other prophets are also regarded as prophets or God (in case of Jesus (p.b.u.h)) in other religions namely Judaism and Christianity. Thus, when Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) is insulted, who is regarded as a prophet only by the Muslims, consequently linked to them only. They feel a sense of personal attack and the insult of the prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) takes a form of “them vs. us”. As a result of that, these self-centered people take on the streets expressing their personal resentment under the banner of Islam. The truth is these so called Muslims are never protecting the honour of the prophets or the honour of Islam but their own honour. When others insult their religion they feel that their pride is at stake; they feel a loss of self-respect and dignity. Whereas when the same people, insult other prophets of GOD, that feeling is never prompted.
Lastly, I would like to conclude by stating that no one can ever dishonour the man, the GOD of the Heavens and the Earth has honoured. This man came as a mercy to mankind and will always be loved and respected for who he was; no video, caricature or statement could defame his personality. I wouldn’t personally watch the video myself, if you still want to go ahead and watch it then do so- but please don’t make any judgements based on a haters perspective. Islam means peace and calls its followers to strive for it, don’t let its strayed followers alter the perception of this way of life. Just like an uneducated person misreading a definition from a dictionary shouldn’t change the definition of the word. Don’t let these ignorant Muslims action alter the true teachings of this way of life.
