We often hear from politicians and in the news talk about reasons why we should go to war against Iran  and previously Iraq because they have  broken a UN resolution  or are not complying with the wishes of weapon inspection teams . Our leaders often like to take the moral high ground when talking about human rights and how the wishes of the international community must be adhered to when the  UN  makes a decision. They use the force of the  UN  and the security council when they require moral legitamacy to go to war yet they are prepared to ignore or circumvent it when votes don’t go their way. When the west uses the  UN  to deal with issues surrounding the  Middle East  they are perfectly prepared to issue resolutions that legitimise the death of millions of children through starvation as they did during the sanctions regime imposed on Iraq.
